The Great American Barn Quilt Trail has trekked west to the Rocky Mountains!

Quilting is a time-honored tradition that first arrived in the Top of Utah with early women settlers and is being brought to life today through the growing phenomenon of barn quilts. These colorful, folk-art pieces are hand-painted murals in a variety of quilt patterns and are displayed on barns and sheds, garages and front porches, even chicken coops!

Barn quilts originated in the Midwest where, in 2001, Donna Sue Groves wanted to honor her mother, Maxine, a noted quilter, with a painted quilt square on the family’s barn in Manchester, Ohio.  From there, barn quilts, and barn quilt trails, spread  into neighboring counties and then emerged in neighboring  states,  and can even be found in Canada.

Enjoy a scenic drive as you weave a trail through the fields and neighborhoods following the self-guided Top of Utah Barn Quilt Trail.   Click the trail map to let the adventure begin!

Please be respectful, responsible, and careful while viewing and enjoying the Top of Utah Barn Quilt Trail.  Use caution when slowing near a site.   Be aware that stopping along busy roads can be dangerous.  Most barn quilts are located on private property and should be viewed from the public road unless otherwise indicated.  If it is a business,  it is generally open to the public.  Please follow the instructions given in the barn quilt descriptions on the map.
